Thats right, some of you may be unaware, but Alessio Cavatore left GW a week or so ago and now works for River Horse, his new profile can be seen here: http://www.riverhorse.eu/team.htm
Why did he leave? Who knows, GW seems to have a had a reasonable high turnover of what I would call "Key Staff" in the recent years. For thoose of you worried about the 8th Edition, due out in July, do not worry. I am guessing by now its already at the printers and due back to GW within the month for them to start shipping it out ready for the release.
But now with big cheese names like Andy Chambers, Gav Thorpe, Alessio having left the fold, who will come through and take the reigns? I hope it is someone good, but unlike yesteryear-GW todays GW is very money orientated, especially after messing up of LOTR, so lets hope things quiten down and they go back to doing what we all know they can do, game!
On the other side, all of us wish Alessio all the best in his new job

Master Bugman, I 'ates t' correct you, alas, Alessio will remain with GW as a part-time editor. T' quote the link:
Seems like that company 'll be his own lil project. I truely wish him all the best with it.
Alas, I can't 'onestly say that I 'ave ever trust his design philosophy. After all, weren't his first army books the first truely Power Creeps (see the olde SAD Skaven Army of Doom)? I was more shocked t' see Gav Thorpe go, as I really liked the balanced direction the early 6th edition took back then. I don't know what t' expect from GW these days, but I do a wish in that black pit that be this pirate's rotten heart: That the powers that be (GW) might learn from the Wizards of the Coast's example of far better customer support and interaction.
Cheers and good luck t' Alessio!

Alessio has been a games designer for the last twelve years, working for a large British games retailer/manufacturer, with which he still collaborates as a part-time rules editor.
River Horse Games is his venue for flexing his creative muscles in new and different areas of the wide gaming world.

You obviously don't play 40k Chaos then, otherwise you would join the rest of us right minded individuals in thinking Gav Thorpe is a moron who shold only be given Rule Writing duties if you want them completley screwed and devoid of all flavour and substance.

well some times we all need a change ! The warhammer we grew up with is gone ! The early 80s was the day , the great white dwarf and warhammer as it started out !!
But after the storm of chaos G W went down the road of no return !!
so i look ahead for new Young people ! Thows who look in a different direction to take over we need new ideas !
Warhammer has lost it glory

How exactly did GW mess up the Lord of the Rings? I don't understand?

Lost quite badly as paid large price for the rights but never returned the cash cow that they actually budgeted for. The sales were ok but they hoped it would sell like the other 2 - that is why they have introduced the ' gaming part of the new rules etc - with larger armies so pople buy more figures etcHow exactly did GW mess up the Lord of the Rings? I don't understand?
I have enjoyed a lot of additions but at present some of their pricing for 'plastic soldiers' is very over the top - Eg empire swordsman, beastman range.
but enough neg from me - enjoy what you can out of this hobbie a paint more dwarves (1000 and growining)

I'm quite the young'un so apologies if this makes you older grumblers roll yer eyes, but does anyone really think (after seeing the new edition) that the staff turnover is going to add to the perceived downward momentum of the hobby (as I have read on here and other WHFB forum)? The dwarves seem to have gotten a nice boost, which is great considering my missus got me the BfSP box set just a few months ago and I have enjoyed the modeling part of the hobby but the gaming side of it has left me as the butt end of many friends' jokes (*&@#$ dark elves and vampire counts...). The improvements of the new edition seem to have great potential to me for being more competitive in the gaming arena. Thoughts?

Well Dwarfs improvemnt came for the fact that now templates hit what ever they touch (no longer 4+ to hit partials) and with their ability to re roll scatters they are now devastating. 2 Stone throwers can now wipe out full units each turn. And with skirmishers forced in formation they are not safe anymore. Still testing but Dwarfs where competitive before bit more devastating now.
As for Alessio leaving GW well I am happy

Warhammer was never the same after they went from the 3rd edition to the other editions.3rd edition was a great system and it has gone downhill from there.I have been playing warhammer ever since it first csame out.Empire or men of the west as they were known in the 1st and 2nd editions and dwarfs.

I started playing with the 3rd. To be honest, a lot of rules, but so more balanced then what we have now
Agreed alessios armys where the most messed up powerful ones, but then again, he did know the rules like the back of his hand.
Also, LOTR was never going to make the money, thats the problem with any film game tie in, once the hype has gone, so do the sales, and these days, people play computer games, not figure games.
Bring back game in the box ideas, like space hulk, bloodbowl and best of all, space marine.

I started with the first edition and i have bought the other editions up and including 7th.3rd was the most balanced lots of rules true and the price was £15 and the same for the Wahhamer Armies book which had around 10 army lists and merc and ally lists as well.it has gone downhill since especially with the 4th and 5th editions.I still play 3rd edition with my friends.

It seems Alessio elaborated his own rules system, called "Kings of War".
