Remember to use washing up liquid in your water when diluting washes, makes them work much better and leaves less pigment on the higher areas.

Nice job mate but that mug definately needs some shading. The eyes arent bad at all but whats missing is a darker line around the whites for definition. Before you do the eyes, pop a brown wash in the socket. Go heavy with it and maybe do 2 or 3 times to get the darkness you want, then paint the white then the vertical black stripe. Leave a bit of the dark brown around the whites though and it will make them look much better

Intriguing ... I will definitely look into that. Washing up liquid as in just stuff you use to scrub dishes? That doesn't harm the paint?

My devoted fans (
) will remember my as-yet-unfinished Ironbreaker standard bearer. Behold, progress!

This was my plan all along and goes towards justifying the previously aesthetically unappealing "jutting mining picks". I could just leave him where he is, but I am also considering going all out and attaching banners or charms to the chain ... or possibly more chain ... At the very least I am a lot happier with him now and certainly much happier with him than his original bland form. He's probably my favourite model in my tiny painted force thus far.
Oh, he also has his shield now! Go 2+ save, go!

Just another little update. Work in progress:

Emphasis again on "work in progress". I will be sticking his funktastic crazy-mechanic backpack on him once I'm done with the main part.
I'm not sure if maybe the mini I've got here might have been cast poorly ... like the (from this point of view) right side of his face, the part which borders with the helmet, is sort of messed up. It's not undercoat or anything, it's solid metal ... It's not easy to notice from a distance so it's not so bad I suppose.
I've really taken my time with this one thus far (second night of painting) to work on getting the trick with shading and shadows, for example the shadow underneath the gun and generally the seperation of elements ... the blue shading on the cloth and helmet is new as well, I've never highlighted a non-metallic colour before.
I'm really not sure about the main body of the gun being bronze; gold and broze I am finding next to impossible to shadow/highlight and it's a fairly complicated part of the model ... I've never taken an art class or anything but I'm trying to keep a balance between cold and warm colours here. I am painting his main armour in the same scheme as my Ironbreakers (Boltgun Metal / Shining Gold) as he too is wearing Gromril armour. Note that I haven't highlighted the silver yet (except for the main part of the chainmail).
Speaking of shading, I found a bottle of "Gryphonne Sepia" wash in my eBay paint collection and it gives the most amazing finish to gold (I've used it on all the gold elements above). Really brings out an intense warmth to the colour without washing out the shine too much.

Finished:

As normal no Golden Demon or anything but I am learning as I go along. He is far more shaded than any other mini I've finished thus far. He looks better in person than in the photos I promise ...
Oh, I should mention, as normal the base isn't finished. I'm probably not going to use the standard base for this guy, I want something more interesting.
