Okay I encountered a weird situation the other day, I'm still a novice so I dont know the rules in and out.

Played a game versus lizardmen, broke a unit of saurus warriors and pursued them so I ended up right next to another unit of saurus warriors, here's a drawing to illustrate it:

So I suppose I cant charge with my longbeards in that situation since they cannot see the saurus', but if I turned them I would still have enough movement to get into base contact.

What exactly happens in a situation like this? Do I have to wait another round and then charge or what?

Yes, you have to wait another round. Can't charge what you can't see and you can't do any manoeuvres during a charge move other than a wheel

In order to declare a charge, you must have two things: 1) Line of Sight 2) a reasonable expectation of completing the charge.
You don't have LOS, so you cannot declare the charge.

And I guess simply moving them regularly into base contact would be an illegal move?

No need to guess, checking the rulebook works just fine. It says that unless you charge (or use a spell that triggers a similar effect) you can't come within 1" of another model. If you ever do you instantly stop moving.
