Morning folks.

Recently i've picked up about 500 mb of Mordheim material (from official GW site and Tabletop Geeks site). Hopefully, we are starting a campaign next weekend so time to muster a proper dwarf warband.

Passed a while since i played Mordheim (about... 5 years perhaps?) and now i have my doubts how should my warband looks like. Becouse my opponents are O&G and DE i've tried to made shooty band, yet too much xbows or handguns would made me static (move or fire) which isn't good. That's why i took pistols instead. With engineer they have 12" effective range (9" + 3" move), and can be used after move. Hammers on the other hand are cheap and looks usefull (on theory at least) so main weapon combination is pistol & hammer. Rather than investing gold in armour (which is quite easy to bypass) i choose to reach at least 8 dwarf in band. With exp/income progress i'll try to equip every single hero with Dwarven Axes and Master of Blades skill to increase their survivality.

So here they goes - Karnad's Bloody Beards

Heroes
thane Karnad "the Boss" Oznigsson (noble) - hammer, pistol - 103g
master Giznoh "the Sarge" (engineer) - hammer, pistol - 68g
"Lefty" (troll slayer) - 2x hammer - 56g
"Righty" (troll slayer) - 2x hammer - 56g

Henchmen
"Hawk Eye" (thunderer) - hammer, pistol - 58g
"Dirty Jorri" (thunderer) - hammer, pistol - 58g
"Shorty" (thunderer) - hammer, pistol - 58g
"Lucky" (thunderer) - hammer - 43g

500g, 8 heads, 86 rating, decent (short range) firepower, yet... dunno, maybe my assumptions are wrong? Any of you tried "pistolieros" recently? Are pistols really worth their price?

I like it a lot. That's going to be a really fun warband to use.

Yes it has been a long time for me also, both for the game and this forum.

Anyway, I remember that the axes were a better buy as you can parry with them and the brace of pistols were good so you can shoot every turn. I also seem to remember that helmets were almost a must. I have not yet compared the online rulebook with the hardback original that I still own so don't know of any major changes to the game.

I still have my warband, dug it out just before the holiday. I used the old Long Drong slayers models and the Bugman Rangers models. I have no idea if these models can still be found anywhere (except at my house)but I am sure there are pictures somewhere.

Good hunting with your band.

Well, the fight was fought.

Becouse it was first game after years of absence in Mordheim, we rather try to remind/test rules than just play to win. So everyon rush to meet enemy, there was some shooting, there were charges etc.

My rolls sucks so pistols did nothing during whole fight, besides i thought that pistols have in Mordheim same rules as in WFB (no mods to hit for moving or distance), instead chances to actually hit anything with pistols were way to low for my BS3 "snipers".

Anyway, i made another lists, one "elite" and one "cheap & effective". Got some fluff for them, based mostly on Black Company by Glenn Cook and various fiction gangs/villians (for example Kane series by Karl Edward Wagner and more), but will write it down when finally choose one band.

So here they goes:

Elite
Noble + Gromril Armour + Shield + Helmet + Dwarf Axe
Engineer + Crossbow + 2x Axe

3x Thunderer + Crossbow + 2x Axe

Battleplan - armoured tank (noble) goes in frontguard, while rest stays behind him shooting, eventually charging to aid noble.

Cheap & Effective
Noble + Dwarf Axe + Pistol
Engineer + Crossbow + 2x Dagger
Troll Slayer + Dwarf Axe
Troll Slayer + Dwarf Axe

Thunderer + Crossbow + 2x Dagger
4x Beardlings + 2x Dagger

Battleplan - cannon fodder (beardlings) goes in frontguard, crossbows shoots, noble + slayers charge enemies engaged in HtH with beardlings.

Any thoughts?
