Hey guys!

I know I have been gone a while, but I finally have some time to model on my ironbreakers, so here is a small update: I have done some work the third ironbreaker, as well as starting with the weapons and shields (just a small beginning, but anyway).

Here´s the thing: I don´t know what to put on the shields. Besides the obvious runes I mean. If anyone has any suggestions, I´d be more than happy to hear them.

you can try something like that. it should be easy to make than to replicate the carving of GW IB's:

They look pretty good, but I have a couple of points that you might consider when making more of these nice ironbreakers.
- chainmail doesn't look too good. There're many tutorials on the web for chainmail sculpting. For a start, try use smaller pin and put the rings closer to each other - like in RL chainmail. When doing rows, place a next row slightly to the side, so the rings don't sit on top of each other.Sculptors like to use syringe needles, too.
- their hands are a bit long. Sure, it's fantasy, but... If you don't put 2-handed weapon in their hands, making them slightly shorter should not be a problem.

Anyway, these figs are good, but you can make them even better

@ Barin: I agree with you on the chainmail, it does look rough. I will experiment with some different tools and try to improve my chainmail in the future.

As for the arms being on the long side: I´ll keep that in mind and see how I like them with the hands attached... I´ll likely shorten them, thanks.

@ Gorim: I am flattered, thank you.

Update!

I am making progress on the axes, the basic hand shapes have been added and so I could not resist some quick mock-up shots.

I added additional detail to the bodies, like jewelry and rivets, but that is quite time consuming. I will still have to do more rivets, I think they look good and add texture, but damn, those are fiddly!

I followed Barins advise and shortened the arms a bit, and now I am busy finalizing the armor plates on the forearms.

They definitely look better now ;)
Some ideas that came to my mind:

- looking at old marauder dwarfs and Reaper models I thought that scale gloves (I think of fingers first of all) might be a good idea. Not too difficult to make, but they can add depth to the model.
- quick and easy way to make rivets is to use small diameter tubes, like from automated pencil or ballpoint pen.
- handles on the axes - also relatively easy, but will add nice detail
- if you have time and patience you can add daggers...

Nice job :clapping:but...remaining strictly consistent with GW's ironbreakers' background i think that those axes' handle are too long...if i'm not wrong they are tunnel fighters...long handles could be an encumbrance...

@ Barin: I´ll try the automated pencil for rivets, thanks.
I was going to give them plated gloves, but I like the scales idea very much... so I´ll try both.
I do consider giving them little pouches, daggers and such, but I don´t see where I could add them without it looking arkward or being very cumbersome to mold. If you have an idea where to put the gear, please let me know.
And thanks for all the input, I appreciate it!

@ Drakkol: Thanks, but do you mean the length of plastic rod beneath the hands? Because those are only for my convenience, so I can hold them more easily when sculpting. They will be removed once I am done.
As for he length of the weapons themselves: the longest is the one on the right, and it has the same length asa regular axe from the dwarf sprue. The two others are shorter.
But it does look rather long, doesn´t it? I guess I´ll shorten it a bit.

ok, now I understand...good choice:victory:
what do you think about the axe in my thread(bust's one)? I know it's bigger than yours and it's easier to work on it...

Sorry for the slow updates on the ironbreakers, the guys over at Troll Forged asked me to do some Chaos dwarfs, and well... our dark brethren have quite some allure :diablo:

I also arranged for my ironbreakers to be cast in metal once they are done, which I expect to be in about a week. I am quite excited of the prospect of painting and fielding a unit of them :dance3:

@ Gorim: I agree, there will be a hammer! Any preferences as to the design?

Anvil-shaped??:)
Also, read this http://www.warseer.c...ad.php?t=241284 and check if it inspires you too further work on those ironbreakers! Further, i would like to see a scale comparison to a GW fig:)

Anvil-shaped it is, then.

I will look into that story, thanks.

For the size comparison: I posted one earlier, but I will include some scale shots in the next update on the ironbreakers, which should be within the next two days.
