I've noticed a lot of love recently for the old, out-of-production dwarves; clearly many of us are fans of the best minis that Citadel (and Marauder) ever produced ... the old metal dwarves. I've always wanted to have a little sub-community devoted to the old-school in all of us, but I think it's good to keep all the painting and modeling threads together here in the Forge. So I thought I'd start collecting links to threads that focus on vintage dwarves.

The way I'm defining "vintage" is 5th edition or earlier. And I've only pulled threads that PRIMARILY deal with the older figs. Lots of blogs have one or two older figs strewn amongst the BfSP, but I'm just trying to find things that really emphasize the old.

Here's what I found going back a bunch of pages worth of threads:

Ancient Dwarves, OOP Dwarvish metal (Hetz)
New Project With Old Dwarfs, Darkblade's New Imperial Dwarf Army (Darkblade)
All Metal Dwarf Army of OOP goodness...(Drongan GS Engineer)
Army Painting Diary - The Dwarves Of Karak-azul (Taggra Foecarver)
Goldhand's Stout Lads - Army Blog (Tungdil Goldhand)
Clan Stonefist (Drugart)
New Projects W/ Old, Old Models (Jimmytrout)
Dwarf Tavern Diorama (Tungdil Goldhand)
My Retro Army (Archibald)
Osl Test With Marauder Wizard (step-by-step on Page 3)(Jaeckel)

I know there are more, so if you can think of any more to add, keep 'em coming!

Some more:

Some Of My (Perv's) Dwarf Collection
Vintagephreak's amazing collection (added 12/21/09)
Boramars' Dwarf Pics (added 12/21/09)
Karak Angaz Reinforcements Pt. 1 & Pt. 2 (Barin) (added 1/2/10)
A Few of the Throng (BlackThorn) (added 1/2/10)
Vidpui's Dawi Throng (Vidpui) (added 1/20/10)
More Than A Couple Marauder Dwarfs (white knight) (added 5/3/10)
Karak Zorn (Welf VIII) (added 7/12/10) (for some reason this won't register as a link, so here you go: http://www.bugmansbr...26-karak-zorn/)
Vertically Challenged in Garish Colours (spikehead) (added 7/12/10 — did I really miss adding this thread until now?!?!)

cheers,

Jeff

There are some great threads that deserve being revisited (much like the old figs deserve to be revisited).

Very nice!

I have a mix of some of the newer sculpts and some of the older models.

To me this adds real character and "realism" to my throng.

This way not all the models look that similar!

First, posting a thread like this is a good initiative - so have one on me.

Secondly, I think this thread needs to be stickied, so if any mod or admin is around - please get this done.

Thirdly... If the Dwarfs of the current range looked even nearly as good as these do, I would doubtlessly be starting an army again. As of now, I am still hesitating.

There may be others that people post links to so once its run for a while it'd be an idea for Jeff to copy the links to the top, that way its all easy to get to in one go wink.gif If anyone has something related, no matter how old, please post a linky. I'm sure theres a lot more topics we've missed.

Makes you wonder why GW took all the classic models off their range doesnt it Ranulf !!! Madness !!!

Get snapping Boramar smile.gif

I agree Stonedog, I like the way they vary in scale slightly as I cant stand every figure being exactly the same height with the same sized features, just looks un-natural to me.

lol it'd be a shock to my system mate, I thought the world basks in a dull greyness like us here in England smile.gif One way of getting rid of the glare is to position your body in the way of the light source so its casting a shadow on the fig, on a bright day you can still get more than enough light on the fig, so I've been told wink.gif

I'll tell you what, looking back through all these threads I'm once again reminded what an amazing resource these are for lovers of old minis! There's incredible work in here!

So many different and great takes on the pikemen, for one. I think the pikedwarves are the single most iconic figure of the late 80s Citadel/Marauder era. So unlike anything — ANYTHING — made now. Absolutely brilliant.

Brings a tear to an old longbeard's eye.

No prob guys! It's good to have a place for all of us who would rather look back to the Golden Age (as the Roman poet Ovid would put it) than forward to the ??? (Plastic?) Age.
