Hello!
Since I want to create an army of dwarf-style "Vikings of the North", I would like to have your advice on which dwarfs can go better between these two hypotheses:

GAMES WORKSHOP
heads of dwarf crossbowmen:

with bodies of dwarf warriors:


or

-2-
MIRLITON:






What resemble visually more fighters to the Vikings?

The bottom ones for me, they look more rugged and with some horns on the helmets would look more fitting than the GW warriors. The weapons also look more Viking-eqsue IMHO.

The horn-myth was created by the Brittish once we started to invade, and the french for that matter; the norse sociaty was -very- complex to be honest, we had evrything the rest had; Farms, cheifs, kings, trade routs, caravans, ships etc. Though then we had the so called "Go Viking" which in common meaning means "Go and raid", so basicly the "Vikings" that did strike fear into Europe for 300-years was basicly normal norsemen taking to the sea to get riches...

This is a romantic vision of Viking, which visually is not unbecoming.
But I would prefer something closer historically...

axes, swords, and shields with Tiwaz runes on them, a helm of awe occasionally, etc.

mabey have your leaders shield with a picture of Jormungandr?

personally I don't see anything wrong with horns!
historical resemblence is one thing and really themed army is the second.....I would go for old rangecitadel norse dwarfs-great options of spears,axes and hammers! you can even get an archer or two
and the colour scheme - if historicaly then mixed bronzes and greys with occasional coloured sack or bag attached to the belt. otherwise - I love combination of beige and dark red with dark brown finish!!!

vikings didnt like to use Archers, they thought it wasnt honourable. Usually they would rush head on into the fray with a handful of berserkers...i mean they had archers, but many didnt respect them

Thanks for the advices.
Then do an example. Taking the second list of pictures: colors for the helmets of the warriors?
Another example: we now take dwarfs armed with clubs and hammers: colors for coating of armor? Bllue in the pictures, but I don't like (de gustibus!).

Is feasible? It is not an easy design to create miniature

Beeing a Norwegian let me tell you: The hornyness of the Vikings got nothing to do with horns on the helmet. It was the English who got horns.

Thee lower ones looked fairly well like Vikings.

Color-sheme: I would say earth-colours with some yellow and red in them, and brown hide for the berserkers of course :-)

A bit over halv of them with light blond hair, and the rest with darker blond or black, and some occational red hair.

Speaking instead of Slayers and berserkers, I would make the comparison of the Games Workshop miniatures and Black Tree Design:

Both should be changed: it would be necessary to remove the ridges and add fur.
What do you like the most? The issue price to momentarily put aside.
Of BTD not I like the helmets of skull dragon (I do not know if you can remove, or form part of the thumbnail as I fear).

for berserkers, id use the GW ones and just put a bear/wolf pelt on them....no shields

both choices seems to be OK. and as much as I love slayers of all kind in this case - when you want to keep them as close as possible to real vikings - i guess i would have gone for BTD. this might not be a very popular statement ( ) but they have shorter beards and it would make them better and more fiery fighters i guess....
unless you would go for citadel berserkers

shields wouldn't matter to me at all. coats of fur most welcome though.
