It's All Your Fault!

So, my buddy over at http://underempire.blogspot.com/ has been concerned over my lack of hobby recently. While it's true that it's dulled down a bit for a myriad of reasons (work, other hobbies, and the odd alien abduction or zombie apocalypse) it hasn't died completely- just not to the competitive level it used to be.

     Whatever.

So, he cooks up this idea to start up a Blood in the Badlands campaign- fully painted models only, knowing that one of my major gripes with the local hobby scene recently has been "Grey Soldier Syndrome." He also stresses the campaign will  very story driven, and we'll all even be allowed to "invent" one unique unit entry for our armies. Okay, ya bald freak, I'm in.

Now comes decision time: which army. I have somewhere around 10,000 points of painted Warriors of Chaos, and have played them in just about every conceivable combination... and that's the problem. Mentally, that game is over in my head turn one, nothing new or exciting. High Elves... hmm, i have enough there to do it, but  built that army during 7th Edition to prove High Elf Core could win on their own, and now that they're much better that army is a little flat too. My Tomb Kings are 3,000 painted, but haven't been touched since before the new book, and I know i'll want to send my rent on updating the army... which leaves me with one clear option.

I had purchased a (mostly unpainted) army of Dwarves from a friend when he needed a change of armies and some disposable income. Somewhere in excess of 5,000 pts. An army I haven't played a thousand times, new (to me) models to paint, and a story driven campaign to show off my beardiness?  With thoughts dancing in m head of an upcoming "steam chariot"  I immediately signed up as the Dwarven Defenders of Karak Kar. What, I have to start in Barak Var? Okay, so long as I don't have to keep those colors. My throng will be green and grey. Any reference to them as "Grey Soldiers" will be retorted to with cannon fire.

So off we go, into another realm of wee plastic men. These wee plastic men are better though, they have beards. Not sure when then campaign is officially starting ("Gamer Time" is only slightly less efficient and well organized than a bipartisan Senate hearing) but my under empire friend and I will be playing a bit of a "test game" next Friday.

So many rats.... must bring more firepower.
