Chapter 2- Arrival in Merskefn
Will looked in awe as I saw the great Library of Merskefn. Books traded from all over the world are stocked here. Brought by Norse and Marienburgers, but also elven books, Scrolls and leather bound dwarven work could be seen here. A tear of joy rolled his cheek. This was like heaven. His knowledge could be 10 000 times expanded. He wished never to have taken slayer oath and just Vow to read all this books. But he couldn’t, he killed another dwarf and he needed to pay for it. ‘ I could heroically die reading a big book’ he tought. But the tougths was fast of as he grabbed an old leather bound book. ‘ My travels with Gotrek Gurnisson Vol. 1’ was the title. Written by Felix Jeager. The name recalled something of his mercenary days in Altdorf. ‘Ah, yes good times’. The window tax riots it where, yes. But he shouldn’t waste time reading this book. He should be outside asking locals about legends and rumours useful to the dwarven race. He decided to do so.
Back on the stone glad street a bird lei, dead. Poor little guy must have fallen to a cat seen as a clawmark rented his throat.
As Will walked trough the stone clad street he encountered a small shop. Called ‘Runeshop’ he wondered what would be inside. As he walked in he asked the shopkeeper: ‘what do ya sell ‘ere lad?’ ‘Runes stunt, have problems with that?’ The shopkeeper responded sneer-ish. ‘You don’t dare to call me stunt again. I guess you don’t know I’m a Runelord of the dwarven race...’ ‘ Oh sorry, did I offend you? Well ‘ere you’ll have a special suprise.’ ‘ Whuzzah, give the stunty a nice ‘special treatment will ya’. A big orc passed trough the inside door. He was big and muscled. a mercenary for sure. Orcs don’t like working with humans. They would rather crush them. The orc pulled out a Big dwarven hammer. Clearly stolen. I didn’t look rune-inscribed. ‘ Whuz smash stunty?, Whuz smash stunty!!!!’ the orc raced to will clearly wanting to kill and/or eat him. The big hammer hit the dwarf, sending him flying trough the door in a pile of stinking goo and mud. He wanted to stand up and crush the orc, but an old woman prevented him from doing so.
‘ everything all right lad?‘ she asked. ‘Come, these folks are not keen on dwarves in this part of the city. I’ll bring you to my house. You look injured.’ The old woman lifted to dwarf to his feet easily, suprisingly. The dwarf was muscled and clearly twice as heavy, still the woman was strong enough and somehow familiar.
He woke up. He didn’t know where he was. The orc must have caused some brain problems. He lied in a human sized bed made of worlds edge’s tree wood There where more beds all empty, bar one in witch lie a drunk. he walked down and encountered a inn. The woman stood at the bar. He walked to the bar and ordered a beer. ‘ What happened?’ He asked. ‘ You fainted young lad’ she responded. ‘ we needed tree men to lift you. Why are ya ‘ere and why did ya go to the Norse neighbourhood. We all know Norse ain’t nice. In this Marienburg piece of the city we’ll respect ya’. ‘ I’m here in search for dwarven artefacts’ ‘ Do ya know any rumours or legends?’ ‘ No lad, but I know there be a book about the mines of Khadzon exists. You may ask the librarian if he knows something.’ she said this while the dwarf gulped all ale down at once. He left a gold coin on the table and departed. ‘ Aware of the orc!’ she said while he still stood at the door.
He walked in at the library again. He greeted the Librarian and gave him a gold coin out of respect. ‘ Do ya know anything about dwarven mines or ruins in this area?’ he asked.
‘ I’m not sure if there would be something dwarf alike but I do know we have caves with weird creatures often attacking the city. ‘ ‘Where!?’ North of the city pal’ Will departed clearly set on exploring those caves.
