Hi everyone!
This is my entry for the June 2012 painting competition. I knew the female dwarf would come up eventually in one of these contests and was looking forward to it – I have about fifteen female dwarves in my collection, only one of which is painted. I have accumulated them over time in an effort to find the right mini to use for my general; the background of the army has them led by a queen. As a result, I have female dwarves from Reaper, Hasslefree, Fenryll and Scibor as well as Citadel's 'Helgar' model which has already featured on this blog.
I chose this Fenryll model because it was well detailed and could easily fit into the second of my hand weapon and shield warrior regiments which is (sporadically) in the works. It is also the first resin miniature I've ever painted. Due to the amount of detail on the model and the integral base, I initially thought it would be a pain to paint but I must say it was an absolute delight. If you have the chance to pick up this mini, I urge you to do so; it is one of the most enjoyable minis I have ever painted.
In retrospect, I should have spent more time on this mini; I had it finished on the thirteenth! I could have spent double that and done a better job but what with this new unit painting competition, I tried to get it out of the way early. I needn't have worried – I'm already half way through my unit and the competition's only been going for two weeks out of two months!
Jim.
