243 Dwarves, 9 War Machines And A Halfling

Posted by Snugg Thistlehammer , in Hobby, Dwarf Army 21 May 2012 · 886 views

Hello once more!

I mentioned in an earlier post that my dwarf army was about five hundred strong and had some requests to take a photo of my entire army.  I used the opportunity to take stock of where my army repaint project is at and how much I still have left to paint.

I'm a bit behind where I thought I was; I reckoned I had finished about three hundred.  I have actually only painted 243 dwarves, 9 war machines and a halfling.  A quick count shows that I still have 240 odd dwarves, 5 war machines and the anvil of doom to go.  And that's if I can resist getting hold of any more in the meantime!

Projects I've yet to even start include:
Bugman's Rangers
Longbeards
Lord with shield bearers
Miners
Dragon Company
Anvil of Doom
Plus a few others I'll keep secret for now!

Currently I'm focussing on finishing the Ironbreakers, which you can see bottom right in the photo with blue and yellow livery.

So here's a picture of the painted army as it stands.  I would have liked to have taken a full army shot with all the unpainted dwarves as well but they're (mostly) all stripped and bagged up into units and it would be a pain to dig them all out, slot them in bases and pack them back up again afterward.

So if you want to see a photo with all my dwarves in it, you'll just have to keep reading the blog for another few years!

Nice, that's a great looking army. Nice solid infantry units you've got. And it looks great.

... and the halfling orders a drink. The bartender, seeing all the dwarves is worried about the size of his inn and whether there will be enough ale. He says "we're only small here - and I'm afraid we're quite short" to which the halfling replies "That's what they said in Mootland". GEDDIT?? :-D

}:-L

Anyway, thanks guys. Hopefully an ironbreaker update isn't too far away!
This so a great sight, thank you for reacting to my request ( since I am really greedy dwarf I will take the credit ;D ). I hope that my Throng will look that rewarding when it has reached that size :)

I Will :D

Keep it going, want to see that Ironbreakes and ...

By the way:
You seriously need a Throne of Power (and maybe some Gyros) for your collection and more slayers !!! ( what do you want with mere 500 minis? go for 1000 ;P )
Very very nice Snugg! : )

Spawn Man; Thanks chief!

Theatralic; Well, mate, I have the old throne of power but I don't like the look of it. In fact, I think it looks ridiculous (and that goes double for the new one). True, so does a giant anvil on wheels, but I can always make it without the wheels...

As for slayers, I have about 20 or so more still to paint and two of the 5 remaining war machines are actually gyrocopters! One of them could be passed off as good enough as is but I might as well go the whole hog. I mean, what's one extra gyrocopter when there's 240-250 more dwarves to paint anyway?

Great stuff Snugg, it brings a tear to this dwarfs eye to see such a beautiful army! ;)
That is a really nice army with some excellent models! I think I spot a few marauder miniatures (cannon) and the old flame cannon crew manning a cannon. Good work.

Thanks Ironskar!

There's also more than a few Marauders there - nearly all the crossbows and thunderers, all ironbreakers, most of the hammerers, many of the warriors, the swivel guns, and the slayers are all Marauder as well. And there's plenty more to come! :)
