Evening, Dwarfs and Dwarfettes!
Another unit finished during my absence from the brewery; my thunderers. Like my warriors, these are a mixture of old and new paint jobs. The musician, you may recall, was my entry in the December 2010 painting competition, who is probably the best painted dwarf in this regiment.
There's no Standard as yet for the standard bearer; the banners I'm using are too big for his banner pole and I really want to keep him for my thunderers as he's got a sawn-off which looks the part. I may have to resort to freehand, which I suck at. Any suggestions anyone?
These guys debuted in a battle I remember very well. My main opponent years ago was a friend of mine who today would be called "cheesy". He always looked for the most powerful list, however ridiculous. He played Dark elves and Chaos (in those days there was no seperation of warriors and deamons, they were mixed together and simply called "chaos").
I had a battle coming up against him and Chaos was his flavour of the month. I decided, to hell with sportsmanship, it's time to fight fire with fire. So, knowing his army had no shooting, I loaded up my list with 30 crossbows, a flame cannon, two organ guns, a cannon and these guys. Two blocks of 20 spears led by the general and a rune lord finished the army off.
Terrain fell my way; there were two choke points for my spears to hold while the rest blasted away from a couple of nicely placed hills. Perfect! You should have seen his face as I deployed. Imagine my indignation when he called unfair! He begrudgingly accepted it when I pointed out that my method of army selection was the same as the one he admitted to using every game.
It was a very close run thing but I prevailed. Boy was he dark. It was his first ever loss, and a very proud battle honour for this regiment!
Until next time...
Jim.
