Lets Get This Party Started Then...

Campaign Throng Battle Report
Well with 8th ed being around the corner, and a local campaign just kicking off my dwarves are fairly busy right now so it seemed like a good time to get this blog going.

Since info on 8th ed is a limited patchwork of notes cribbed down by folks who have been into stores, this is the last I will say about it here until release and I get to read the rules properly.

So, onwards and upwards, to the campaign.

A campaign has started locally.  Rumours of a wood elf held peninsula separate from Athel Loren had been circulating from some time among the great and the good, and the not so great and not so good of many races. Now that peninsula has been found and forces from around the world have descended on it with conquest in mind. Against so many the wood elves cannot hope to stand, but they will try.

Of course, the location of this land is old knowledge to the dwarves of the holds in the mountains overlooking the plains below. A truce of sorts had been agreed with the wood elves below, the dwarves stay out of the woods in the plains below, and the elves stay out of the mountains and mines of the dwarves. Of course many elves had died at the hands of dwarven gun and axe as this understanding was reached, but the pointy eared ones didn't come skulking around any more.

Now with this invasion, it was all set to change. Should the wood elves be wiped out and driven off, the would have to be a new period of cannon led negotiation with the new rabble, that is if the new rabble could even be negotiated with. Rangers had been reporting in with reports of armies from Sylvannia and the north lands among the invaders, as well as men from the empire and the pointy eared brethren of the wood elves.

No, this would not do at all. Now a real dwarf doesn't like change that much, it has to be clearly beneficial, and at have more than a nod to the traditional ways of doing things, and these potential new neighbours offered neither. A real dwarf likes change even less when it threatens the productivity of his mines.

With a hmnph, Lord Thrundorin ordered his armies to war. The hold would not be getting any new neighbours this year. Who would have thought it, his dwarves marching to the aid of the pointy ears. Unless, he thought...

That river running through the woods could offer up an awful lot of power to a water wheel. The river was clean and clear two. And the land was clearly fertile... It was settled then. Not only would the invaders be driven off the wood elves would as well. That river would make an excellent location for a brewery. Perhaps his lands would be able to rival the ales of Bugman himself given time. He chortled at his flight of fancy. It was unlikely any ales would ever rival those of the master brewer, however maybe he could be given a spot of stiff competition.

And with that, he went to rouse the throng.

Campaign Update:

The archived campaign logs are now here: Campaign of the lost

Turn 4:

After breaking free of the elves trap, Kadrin sent a messenger bird to let his lord know he was ok. After this, and a short rest to  make sure everyone was ok, he picked up the pace and led his men in a wide arc. He intended to continue his progress north, he would just give the Elves in the trees a wide birth as he did so. He was making good progress though, and was sure that he and his men were moving quicker these days.

As he passed the elf territory he began to notice the skies darkening. It did not take long to discover why. Up ahead his men spotted a large uncampment of the undead. It seemed the rumours were true. Confident of the abilities of his men to move whilst hidden, he bagan to trail the new enemy.

Up in the hills, Lord Thrundorin gave the order to attack. It seemed the maps they had were either wrong or out of date. As he marched, he saw his own army winding its way through the mountains towards the same Town as his other army was making for, and the empire group, all moving together.

If that was the way it was, then so be it. They would crush this fortress first, and then the next one.
