30/7/2012 Blog Introduction

Greetings fellow dawi!
Welcome to the blog of Joe Thunderbeard. I have been thinking of creating some sort of record for everything I did with my dwarfs and logic dictates that the best place for that would be the greatest gathering place for every dwarf around the world - Bugman's Brewery.

First off, an introduction is in order. I am Joe of the Thunderbeard clan. 22 years old and a student of English and Hungarian. Born, raised and living in Croatia.

This itself is in a way a anniversary celebration, since around now should be one year as i started playing Warhammer FB, and as a Warhammer general decided to field the mighties army of them all - the Dwarfs. Kind to those who keep their oaths and merciless to those who do not, the Dwarf armies are a sight to behold when marching across the battlefield. The only thing to be feared more than a dwarf is what lies behind the shieldwalls of the marching warriors - the mighty warmachines made by the most skilled engineers across the world. Marked with fabled runes of awe inspiring power, they can lay waste do scores of enemies much before they can reach the shield that protects them.

Phew, getting some role-play out of my system felt good. Being a RPG fan, both PC and pen-and-paper alike (DM-ing a Pathfinder group and enjoying it immensly) as well as a strategy enthusians and fantasy lover Warhammer came naturally to me as a friend invited me to join the local wargaming club. I had no army at the time and when one of the members offered to sell me the Battle for Skull Pass models at the best possible price I just couldn't refuse. The dwarfs immediately appealed to me and I knew that was the army for me. Slow but steadfast, they are to me the best possible choice.

In the beginning I had only a few dozen models, and by far not enough to play the club-standard 2500 points games. After a few months I gathered up some cash and ordered 3 boxes of Mantic dwarves. 20 warriors, 20 thunderers/quarrelers and 20 hammerers, along with the 2 Cannons/Organ Guns that came along with it.

Painting wise, I lack in the department. I have some cheap acrylic paints, and used up brushes. The paints are awful. If I dilute them even slightly they stick to the models like water to a tephlon pan. The brushes are pretty shaggy so it makes any precision work fairly difficult. But hey, with the budget I'm currently on it's the best I have and am making progress regardless.

When I get the time I'll take pictures of the entire throng and post them here in this blog, but currently it holds about 30ish warriors, 20 hammerers, 20 thunderers, 10 quarrelers, a warrior converted into a Runelord, 7 miners, a thane and a dragon slayer, a custom made Anvil of Doom with 2 guard(dog)s and 2 Cannons/Organ guns (Mantic) and a BfSP Cannon and a miner unit filler and a warrior unit filler.

What I plan on doing in the near future is finishing up the painting (obviously) and converting something into a gyrocopter and making a unit filler for the hammerers.

Another thing I had planned for this blog is keeping a record of battles. I will write to as much detail as possible about any battle I have for the purposes of maintaining a record, giving more experienced people to give me some advice, and as a revision for myself which would give me a chance to realise possible flaws in both army build and tactic.

List-wise, I'm trying to build army lists that are generic, without focusing on any one opponent specifically. This only seems fair to me and most of the clubmates and gives an opportunity to practice list-making for any tournaments. So if you see some illogical things in the lists (like MroChallenge against VC) that's why.

This turned out to be quite a wall of text. For those who can't be arsed reading it all i'll sum things up. This will be a battle/creation diary. I'll be writing about anything relating my army and possibly some real life stuff that might seem interesting.
Cheers everyone, have a pint of Bugman's on me!
