Hearthguard Shields - Help Wanted

Posted by Ironskar , 10 July 2019 - - - - - - · 1,187 views

Hi, well I have started playing KoW with my Dwarfs that has been good, getting some use out of them but noticed I never finished the Hearthguard shields. I came up with a digital design on Shapeways that is much better then what I could sculpt. What I need help with is the dwarf runes. The hold is Ironskar that translates as Angbok as shown below but s...

Posted by Ironskar , 20 January 2014 - - - - - - · 1,895 views

Hi,

Pictures below of a selection of the models I sculpted to make this complete unit of twenty thunderers in Dragon Company livery. Still have not decided if I will give them shields.

Dragon Coy Gunline

I am happy with the results of using the Milliput Superfine. Although it is much slower than casting models in lead with 4 hours cure time (or just overnight), if you are sculpting a couple of nights a week you soon get a unit forming up. I also cast one in green stuff as it is easier to cut, this one I have started to convert into a kneeling position. I...

Thunderer And Ram

Posted by Ironskar , 10 November 2013 - - - - - - · 2,178 views

Hi, managed to get the first thunderer finished. So he is dressed in the Dragon Company tunic and carries a pistol as well as his handgun. A nice satchel for his ammo and a sword on his belt as a final back up. I went for a sword as its a bit different, fits in with the OOP models and as the fluff is that they are the hold watch then a short stabbing weap...

Dragon Company Thunderers

Posted by Ironskar , 04 November 2013 - - - - - - · 2,101 views

Hi,

On completing the Hearthguard (Hammerers) for my hold I was looking at what I am still short of to complete the Throng. My full army is listed at https://sites.google...s/ironskar-hold and pictures can be seen in my gallery.

So I have decided I want a couple of units of thunderers, currently these are Ragni's Rifles and are th...

Hearthguard Shield Casts

Posted by Ironskar , 24 October 2013 - - - - - - · 1,538 views

Hi, so I sculpted about a dozen shields and picked my favourites (with some advice, thanks Snugg) and cast more. I have used both greestuff and greystuff but will probably have a go with miliput superfine as well, see which gives the best results. Pictures below. The mould material used is Oyumaru, like instant mould but you can get 6 sticks for £5 off...

More Hearthguard Shields

Posted by Ironskar , 22 October 2013 - - - - - - · 1,020 views

Hi,

Another pic as I am trying to improve my hearthguard shield sculpt. This time I have used a different putty that is like green stuff but is a bit crisper. Once I have a favourite I will try making copies using instant mould. Any thoughts?

Hi,

I am still working on my holds hearthguard. So far I have two units of 20 both with full command and a few spare so they can form a horde with a single command (but I think hordes look good with a couple of standards so might leave them in just for appearances). I am currently working away for a couple of years and did not pack my paints so they wi...

Snugg, I finally got round to it and following your advice I cast more hearthguard, three are here, one of which I decided to make a musician to complete the command group.

I struggled with the shield, I like the pin heads as they are a good shape and thin. But, th...

Wargaming By Email

Hello!Been a while, unfortunately due to work and moving regularly I have not been sculpting but I have been gaming!  Yay!  Anyway, not been able to go to a wargames club forced me to come up with another solution which was playing by email.  Looking around the web I found a dice rolling log hoster (free), Battle Chronicler (also free) and the Kings of Wa...

Again this is three different bodies and 3 different heads but I have modified all the beards with green stuff so all the models different. I have converted a unit champ and standard bearer.

Ironskar Hearthguard (Home Made Cast Models - First Batch)

Posted by Ironskar , 25 August 2012 - - - - - - · 1,375 views

Having cast 50+ of the models in total I have put the first 18 together.  This has given me two duplicates of each.  I wanted bigger beards anyway so modified each repeat model with a bit of green stuff.  Pictures below of the painted first batch.  Posted Image

Ironskar Hearthguard

Posted by Ironskar , 30 May 2012 - * * * * * · 1,916 views

Hi,

As the next painting comp is for a unit and my dwarf hold still needs a unit of Hammerers (the Ironskar Hearthguard), so thats what it will be. But, I made a Hammerer body out of green stuff a couple of weeks back so I plan to cast this, with a couple of similar greens (still to make) and a selection of heads (again still to make). The final plan...
